“Something New”

This particular session marks such an extraordinary point in my career for a few reasons…

First and foremost, I have had the honor of sharing an engagement, wedding, and now the start to a gorgeous family with these two amazing people.  The feeling that comes from knowing you’ve shared, and been asked to capture, incredible moments in a single couple’s life is what photography is all about for me.  Thank you Jamie & Jason for inviting me in.

This shoot also marked my first experience working at the home of O’Studios!  I’m so happy that it has started with a bang, and can’t wait for what is to come in the future!

I always like to try things out of my comfort zone…after talking with Jamie, we both agreed on experimenting with a more artistic approach to maternity photos; focus on the art, the moment, and the superb beauty that lies within the transition to motherhood.  You guys are the coolest!

I hope you all enjoy the beauty in these photos as much as I did.  Either way, please show these guys some love for being awesome.  ;-)

Love you guys.

Amelia - I love every little goose bump of these images, Joe. You have visions and deliver like it’s nobody’s business. Very well done.

Allyson Warrington - Stunning! Can’t stop looking at your work :)

Burgandy - I love that you found a couple that allowed you to do this. It’s simply beautiful. It goes much deeper than regular maternity photos. Amazing job! :)

Rita Regnier Yvarra - I’m a very close friend of Jamie’s (getting to know Jason) You’ve helped me overcome the big age-gap and see her as this stunningly sensual/sexual woman & not only my young soul-daughter/friend. Only an artist can help show different sides of someone. Job well done – Bravo!!

Atlanta Portrait Photographer | Ariel Merivil [ portraits ]

Just wanted to share a few of these kick a$$ portraits I took for one of my best friends, Ariel.  He is a local Atlanta musician with a killer voice and makes magic happen when you put him in front of some ivory.  Give him some love for doing an awesome job at the shoot.;-)

Laura - Amazing! Love how you worked with the light + shadows! I’m coming through ATL next week and I’m dying to see this place!

“The Queen of the Factory”

Wow, OK…where to start?  I have been itching to post these images for a while now as I couldn’t be happier with them! In case you missed the Sneak Peek , here are the details of the shoot…

As a NotWedding photographer for the Atlanta event in 2013, we were required to put together a pre-event session; this could be an engagement session, bridal session, etc.

Fashion photography has always been a secret passion of mine so I decided to go with a high-fashion shoot based on Andy Warhol’s muse, Edie Sedgewick.  Andy named her the “Queen of the Factory” in that her beauty, and overall essence,  captivated his factory studio.  Edie was a true light in a dark place, and darkness always seemed to find her…this, however doesn’t negate the fact that her beauty and innocence always shined within the shadows.

The concept was easy…take a gorgeously styled bride and place her in harsh/dilapidated surroundings and let her beauty and soul take the reins.

I want to first thank The NotWedding for allowing me the opportunity to express myself, and to for awarding me the pleasure to work with such an amazingly talented group of individuals (listed below).

Also, this session was published at the Bride’s Cafe Blog! Our first publication to date! You can check out the post HERE.  Be sure to show some love!

Joe O.

Amelia - Love!

Terri - Wow, these are AMAZING!!! I bet it was hard for Bride’s Cafe Blog to choose which ones to feature. I love them all and am so proud of you!!!!

Sonal - Great job, Joe! You definitely capture the high fashion look and drama. The model looks absolutely beautiful–styling and hair & makeup did a great job as well. I think this could be the start of big things for you!

Kimberly - AWESOME job, Joe! These photos are breathtaking! They have such an editorial feel to them. You should do more high-fashion shoots.

Lisa - l.o.v.e these! Awesome work! Such great contrast with all of these. :*)

Sherry Donnelly - Can’t stop looking….your lighting technique is to the moon! xo

Sneak-Peek  |  Behind-The-Scenes

As some of you may know I will be one of the photographers working the The NotWedding Atlanta event this year alongside Whitney Huynh of Whitney Huynh Photography.  One of the perks of this awesome opportunity, is that each of us has to conceptualize and plan a pre-event styled shoot using some of the other amazing vendors, as well as the chosen couple.

My concept was quite simple;  after a year of being immersed in the industry, I wanted to step out of the box and do something completely different from our norm.  The array of talented wedding vendors in this town is amazing, however it feels as if we are rarely allowed to break out and do something out of the ordinary…this is what we set out to do!

My inspiration came from Andy Warhol’s muse, Edie Sedgewick, or as he liked to call her, “The Queen of the Factory”.  She herself was incredibly beautiful amidst the hardship and chaos that seemed to constantly surround her.  So, my approach was to juxtapose a beautifully elegant bride with the contrast and harsh surroundings of a condemned warehouse space and use them both to create a classy, and above all sexy set of images.  This was to be a fashion bridal shoot with a taste of edgy-ness and modern couture.

I couldn’t be happier with the results from the shoot and we are working hard to try to get them published!   It’s a rare thing for me to not share images I’m super psyched about right away, so I at least wanted to give everyone a brief glimpse of the behind-the-scenes and  a teaser (one of my favorites) from the day.  I promise there will be more coming soon!!!
